Interfaith Council Meets on December 6
At the December 6 meeting of the Interfaith Council of B.I.-North Kitsap, the special speaker will be Barbara Lawrence, a Suquamish tribal member, storyteller, and academic coach for the Suquamish Tribal Education Department. The meeting will be held at Congregation Kol Shalom, 9010 Miller Rd., Bainbridge Island.
Ms. Lawrence was born and raised on the Suquamish Port Madison Indian Reservation. Her father was a full blooded Suquamish Tribal member, and her mother was a first generation Norwegian American. With degrees from Evergreen State College and Bainbridge Graduate Institute, she has a deep knowledge of and passion for the Suquamish tribe and culture. Storytelling is a traditional way of teaching, and she uses it with all ages, from preschoolers to the elderly. Attendees may learn about the history, culture, politics, archaeology, social justice, and/or current activities of the Suquamish tribe, as time allows.
Come at 6:30 p.m. for a light dinner and stay for the 7 p.m. meeting. All are welcome, especially representatives of faith communities in the area. For more information visit the BINK website, https://binkinterfaith.org/.
